Sany Group | China has record year for billionaires

Billonaires have had a banner year in China with the number of US dollar billionaires jumping to 271, up from 189 last year.

Although the figure could be twice that number in unofficial terms.

Sany Group founder Liang Wengen is China's richest man with a fortune of $11 billion (70 billion yuan).

The cut-off point just to make the top 1,000 on the Hurun list was $310 million.  Last year it was $220 million and $150 million in 2009. The average wealth was $924 million.

China's surging economic growth and the large number of successful share market listings were the reason for the rise in billionaires.

Most of the wealth was concentrated in property with 29 of the top 50 listing involved principally in property.
