New Elliott Museum continues to rise in Stuart

STUART  History sits in a pile of concrete rubble, stacked tall next to the construction site of the new Elliott Museum on Hutchinson Island in Stuart.

It is the old Elliott's slab foundation and concrete walls  crushed into little pieces  to be used as the pavement base for the future parking lot, said George Cooper, project manager for the Martin County Historical Society.

The new museum will feature 40,000 square feet of floor space, a 50-seat theater, hands-on artifact labs and multiple galleries with local and regional history. The expected public opening date is early 2013.
